History

In the beginning of 2009, I was booked for Scissors Hair Salon’s Catalog shortly after signing with a local modelling agency in December 2008.

In 2010, I attended a casting for Byblos Hair Salon where I was booked to model an Afro hairstyle after the salon fell in love with my naturally thick and wavy hair. Byblos contacted me to model their new smoothing treatment not too long afterward. I had no idea that I was going to be put on a huge lit up billboard in the hair salon until they sent me a photo of it and asked me to come check it out.

In 2011, I was being booked for various editorials and advertisements for magazines. Makeup Artistry by Julie Katona was one of the magazine advertisements that I modelled for, which was published in multiple issues of Fave Magazine.

In 2012, I was super excited to get the news that author Renee Ryan and publisher Harlequin booked me to model for the cover of Mistaken Bride. It was an honour to represent the main character of a historical love inspired novel!

In 2013, the editor of Capital Style Magazine, whom I modelled for in the past, booked me to model for her other magazine. I told her I just left my fashion agency and was not sure whether I could pose for her. The editor replied she specifically wanted to book me. I was beyond honoured that a magazine editor wanted to book me specially for an editorial. It turns out I was unknowingly hired to grace the cover of Wedding Dreams Magazine as well.

In 2014, I was a hobbyist model still exploring the new world of freelance modelling that I had entered. At this point in time, I did not think you could make a career or be published outside the fashion industry despite being booked for Wedding Dreams Magazine as a freelance model.

In 2015, I continued to build my freelance modelling portfolio with very reputable local photographers. Fashion is only one modelling genre in the freelance world, so I needed to build a more diverse portfolio to include all the modelling genres that I wanted to model. During this process, I gained a lot of freelance modelling experience and knowledge. When I had a solid portfolio, I decided to pursue modelling as a second part time job after learning it was possible to establish a career as a freelance model.

In 2016, I made the difficult decision to overcome my “what if” fears about a freelance modelling career. I had to develop the courage to travel without an agency’s protection. I left my part time job to focus on my dreams of turning my modelling passion into a career. Around the same time, I decided to try submitting to a few magazines after realizing that freelance models can be published. I submitted to a magazine where the editor accepted my work and reached out to compliment it. He suggested I submit to another magazine that he is a co-editor of. I listened to his suggestion and was happy that the lead editor of Northern Shine, an Australian based Magazine, accepted my work for publication in the Lace and Feathers Issue.

In 2017, my work was being published in various magazines. Pretty Poison Magazine was one of the various magazines that published my work. I loyally submitted to every issue of Pretty Poison Magazine throughout the year out of gratitude. It was the first magazine I submitted my work to. I was grateful that the editor accepted my work and recommended that I submit to Northern Shine Magazine where I received a second publication acceptance. I sent in a submission with some of my work for the Exotika Issue of Pretty Poison Magazine. The editor quickly replied he would like to publish my work. I was really grateful that he chose to publish a few of my photos in the magazine. However, I was shocked to find myself on the cover of Pretty Poison Magazine’s Exotika Issue once it was published. The editor said he wanted to keep it a surprise.

In 2018, the editor of Pretty Poison Magazine booked me for an editorial photoshoot. It was a pleasure to meet and work with someone who has been publishing my work for a year and a half beforehand. I was even a featured model in Pretty Poison Magazine’s The Gorgeous Ladies of Ottawa Special Feature in the Beauty of Boudoir and Artistic Nude Issue. I am very honoured that the editor booked me for a photoshoot and photographers were still submitting photos of me to magazines. I was unable to submit to magazines in 2018 since my schedule was extremely busy. I was so overloaded where I watched my to-do list grow while I barely had any time to sleep. The exhaustion is worth it though! I travelled a lot making it a great modelling year for me!

In 2019, I took the initiative to create a projection calendar for 2020. I am very proud of the final results, as I had to undergo many obstacles during the project. Developing a calendar was something completely new to me and thus, a huge learning curve. The process entailed a lot of hard work, effort, and time around my already heavily busy travel schedule. I had very small peaks of available time in between my fully packed modelling tours where I was home to focus on this project. My goal was to capture a unique concept which is not commonly seen in other calendars. The end results yielded abstract art alongside a “where’s Christiana?” fun theme. I could not be happier about my team’s dedication! I plan to continue putting together calendars with different unique concepts every year.

In 2020, I had to rush home on a last-minute basis while on a modelling tour where I was forced to postpone the rest of my trip amongst many others planned for that year because of a coronavirus outbreak. I was determined to find a way to pursue my modelling passion during a pandemic where in-person bookings were not possible due to worldwide border closures. I used my problem-solving skills to research and invest in the ability to perform remote bookings, such as buying new photography equipment, as an alternate way to undertake modelling assignments. This new phenomenon created the opportunity for me to establish connections and partake in virtual projects with various artists from around the world in a safe manner without being physically present. I managed to overcome the difficult time to create a calendar for 2021 and attain the honour of seeing my tethered work published. I was able to present the capability of capturing diverse concepts to produce a unique final result through remote collaborations from the beginning to the end of my calendar’s production. Overall, I have made remote bookings a permanent part of my career as the advantages will outlast any crisis.
